DAY TWO Debria is daydreaming, yet again…

Funny little girl singing with microphone isolated over white background stock photographyDAY THREE Debria is daydreaming halfway through her karaoke song!

Now, as you can see, Debria is quite the daydreamer of the century. she can daydream halfway through her karaoke song! Her family does not know what to do about this and they are terribly worried about her spacey attitude. Well, this is what her family says when they catch her daydreaming;

DAD: Debria, Poppy, (For this is what her dad calls her because she as born on Remembrance Day) stop daydreaming! Daydreaming is a waste of time and can make you stupid! And I certainly DO NOT want a stupid daughter!

Now, don’t take her father’s statement too seriously, for her father is a teacher and can speak rather harshly to his students and also, yes, to his very own children.

MOM: Debria, sweetpops, (“Yet another one of my parent’s ridiculus nicknames for me” Debria would think, with, an included eyeroll.) keep your chin up and you better finish that plate of spaghetti and your Chicken Noodle Soup before it gets cold! Stop daydreaming sweetpops (eyeroll) daydreaming is a waste of energy!

well, you get the idea of how Debria’s mother thinks about this “situation”

Now this is what Debria’s sister would say when she sees Debria’s head rolling about in her daydreams. BUT! before you see what her sister would say, take note that her sister has a very high expectations because she devotes her whole life trying to enroll into Harvard University. and is rather smart and logical. (or as Debria would prefer; “she’s a NERD!“)

SISTER: Deb! (“well at least thats an acceptable name for me” Debria would think) stop sitting there doing useless contemplating and get out there to tell the world you are really going to ACHIVE. YOUR. DREAMS!!!

well, thats how the whole family sees daydreaming as. so, you get the idea.

On a certain sunny summer day, Debria was in the principle’s having yet another time out for not paying attention in class. “There should be a law for not having school from June.21 until September. 21, why does summer break have to take so long to come?!” Debria thought, starting a completely new daydream about an early summer break, where she could go to Hawaii and drink out of coconuts, swin in the ocen with fish, and best of all; having no homework to be in the way of her daydreaming. All was interrupted by a rather rude THUMP! Of the principle’s office door closing. “Alright, Debria, what are you here for?” The principle, Mr.Jerkins asked.

“Mr.Jerkins!” Debria answered. “surely you know me well enough by now that you know what I am here for.”

“And indeed I do,” Mr. jerkins replied, calmly running his hand through his hair (or whats left of it anyways) “Debria, shouldn’t you know better then to space out in the middle of class by now?”

“Yes Mr. Jerkins, but I can’t help it!”  And so the conversation went like that, followed by a  even longer conversation when Mr. Jerkins phoned Debria’s mother.

“Debria!” her mom began, when she got home, “Why, why, why for the last time, must you always be daydreaming? What is it with you and daydreaming?”                                                                                                                                                                                “Well, I can’t help it! Its just a habit now!” Debria said, blinking fiercly to keep the hot burning tears in her eyes to fall out. “I just get bored of what the teacher is saying and just… zone out!“                                                                                                                      “Well maybe you should STOP zoning out and try to pay attention to you teacher, for crying out loud!” Her mom snapped angrily. But looked as if she instantly regretted it. “Oh, Debria, sweetpops, I’m sorry about the outburst! I just had a hard day today.”

But the explanation was not needed, for Debria was already slamming the door to her room behind her, tears streaming down her face.

“why do I have to daydream? I DON’T MEAN TO! my mind just wanders.” sobbed Debria. “How will I ever stop daydreaming?” sob “No one will want to be my friend if I’m always daydreaming!” sob.

The next day at school the teacher made an annoncement; “Boys and Girls, listen up please!” And the class immediately looked up at the teacher. “This week is Literature Week and I want all of you to write at least one short story about yourself the best story will win a free $400 dollar scholarship and a ticket to Hawaii, the runner ups will have their stories posted on the internaet and win a $100 scholarship.”

so naturally, Debria wrote about her daydreaming. Then halfway through her book, you know what she did, she daydreamed!

But in her daydream, she had an idea of what to write for the leterature week and she might even win! (Or at least being able to get a place in the runner ups area.)

And what do you know, she soon got a runner ups priza and had her story “How I stopped the Daydream Fever.”

This was the end of the sentance in her story ” Sometimes, being a bg daydreamer is so annoying, but I turned my Daydream Fever to something more useful, Getting ideas!” :)

Once upon a time, in a small town near Cleveland, there was a little blue house. In that house, an old granny named Sylvia lived with her cat, Mr. Mittens.

It was about fifteen years ago, went Sylvia found Mr. Mitten abandoned on the street. Sylvia took him in and raised him and they’ve been living together ever since. But, one day, Mr. Mittens was acting a bit weird. Sylvia decided to go to the vet and make an appointment.

So Sylvia went to the vet and came back with an appointment at 2:00pm the next day. But as Sylvia was opening the door, she had a bad feeling. She opened the door anyways and entered. Mr. Mittens wasn’t there to greet her. Nor was he in his bed. Sylvia called him, but he didn’t come out. She searched and searched, until, she finally found him under her bed. He was sleeping but he wouldn’t wake up.  Just then, she knew that the appointment would not be any help and that she would have to live alone from then on.

After that, Sylvia didn’t see much joy in living. She started going out less and nobody really saw her anymore more. She grew weaker and weaker as the days passed.

One day, Sylvia’s neighbour had baked cookies and wanted to share with her. Her neighbour brought over some cookies and tea, they had such a good time together eating, drinking and talking.  They decided to do it again, the next week.

The week after, her neighbour came over with some cake. Sylvia didn’t come get the door. The neighbour was wondering why she wasn’t opening the door. But, the door was open and the neighbour walked in.  Sylvia wasn’t home. But, there was a note on the table. It said “thank you for the wonderful cookies and tea” and it also said “it was the best time I had after Mr. Mittens had gone away”. At the end of the note, it said “I have gone to see and live with Mr. Mittens again

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING,

Sylvia.

Chapter 1

Spencer Hastings closed her locker and walked down the hallway, elbowing her way through she crowds of high school students of Rosewood day. The final bell sounded and the students’ began flooding out the large front doors and started loading into expensive cars or unlocking ten speed bikes. Spencer unlocked her __________ and started the engine. As she pulled out of the parking lot, she noticed one of her best friends Hanna Marin pushing through the doors talking on her cell. Hanna, Emily Fields, Aria Montgomery and Spencer used to not talk to each other, but they had recently become the best of friends. No one really knows how it happened, but at the same time no one really questioned it. Spencer had to get home because she was expecting a call from Aria. They had tried to talk today but never got the time. But when she got home, she noticed that there were already three cars in the driveway. Her mom Louis’ shiny green __________, her dad Bill’s black __________ and her sister Melissa’s red __________. Confused as to why they were all home, Spencer pulled in and took her key out of the ignition.

She was confused when she saw the giant lock on her front door, certainly not their regular lock. She was even more confused when she realised that they polka dot patterned key on the key ring didn’t fit. She didn’t understand what was going on so she decided to go around to the back door. But as she pushed the key into the lock, she gasped. This lock had been changed as well. She started breathing her yoga fire breaths, when she heard somebody turning the doorknob on the other side of the thick cedar door. Her mother opened the door and turned back to her father. Her eyes looked tired, as if she hadn’t slept in a few days. She expected her mother to turn back and begin explaining what was going on but her parents continued their silence.

After a moment that stretched on like an hour, she blinked. She looked at her mother, then her father. Still waiting for an explanation. Finally after she realised her parents weren’t talking, she worked up the courage to ask. “When did we change the locks?” She asked cautiously. Her parents looked at each other, then back at Spencer. “Honey,” Her father began, “We had to change the locks.” “But why?” Spencer urged, beginning to sweat. “You might want to sit down.” Her mother gestured towards the green arm chair, and Spencer realised that most of her family’s furniture was gone. “Were we robbed?” She whispered. “No.” Her mother shook her head. “Honey we are so sorry we never told you sooner.” Her mother blurted out. “We’re moving.”

When she opened her eyes, Spencer was on a boat. She began looking around, then realised her parents and her sister were standing behind her. “What are we doing on a boat? Where are we going?” She demanded. “Honey calm down! We’re going to our new house in Alaska.” Her mother pointed out. “Don’t worry Spence! You’ll love Alaska! You get your own bedroom!” Melissa reasoned. “Look we’re here!” Her mother pointed ahead and suddenly they were in a blue minivan. They pulled into a huge grey mansion and her parents began unloading the bags that had suddenly appeared in a moving trailer attached to their car. Melissa on the other hand, stayed in the car. She looked at Spencer and tried to comfort her. “Spence it’ll be ok! I’m sure you’ll make lots of friends!” “But I didn’t even get to say goodbye to my old friends!” Spencer pointed out. “Look Spencer,” Melissa began,”We are here now. We are never going back. So just deal with it!” The tone in Melissa’s voice Shocked Spencer so much, she stopped breathing for like two minutes. Then Melissa quietly stepped out of the car and started helping her parents. Spencer sat in her new bedroom-which actually had an amazing view of the mountains- and sighed. She started unpacking her things. She came across a large box. Inside were dozens of old papers written by Spencer or Melissa. As Spencer started comparing the two piles of papers, she felt faint when she realised that for every A Spencer had, Melissa had an A+.

Chapter 2

Spencer opened her eyes. She was in her bedroom. Not her Alaska bedroom, but her Rosewood bedroom. Thank god! It was all a dream! She checked the clock. 6:30. suddenly the smell of roast chicken came wafting through the crack under her door. She skipped down the hallway and down the stairs, but when she got to the bottom, her heart stopped. All that was left in her house was the dining room table, and several boxes.

Hey family sat at dining room table. Melissa chewed thoughtfully on her piece of chicken. Spencer pushed her food around on plate. “Why are we moving? It just doesn’t make any sense!” “Honey, your father and I have been discussing this for a few months now.” Her mother sighed. Spencer could tell how stressed she was, but she still wanted a proper explanation. “Spencer it’s a great job! The promotion I have been waiting years for and now it’s here! We’re sorry we haven’t talked about this yet, but this is important to me! Please understand!” Bill reasoned. “Dad I understand, but I don’t understand why you never told me until now!” “Spence we didn’t want to put any more pressure on you!” Louis pointed out. “Yah well too late! Ok it would’ve been so much less stressful had you told me like a month ago!” Spencer pushed away from the table and started towards the stairs. “Hon please start packing. We were hoping to leave next week.” At that, with a tear in her eye, she slammed her door and called Aria.

After she finished explaining everything since she arrived home from school, to dinner. Aria didn’t make much noise during the phone call. At first Spencer thought maybe she wasn’t even listening, but then she heard a sniffle. “Oh my god Spencer! That’s so awful! What are you going to do?” “What can I do? They say they want to leave next week! God I can’t even look at them right now!” “Why don’t you just come stay with me for a while?” Spencer said she would call right back. She went around her room and did a half ass job packing, then walked downstairs. “Mom dad, I’m staying with Aria for a few nights.” Then, before her parents could say anything, Spencer left. She got in the car and drove to Aria’s. Five minutes she was sitting in Aria’s room. After a couple of minutes crying, the doorbell rang. “I’ll be right back!” And with that Aria skipped out of the room. Ten seconds later she came back. But now Emily and Hanna followed her. “We are all spending the night together!” Aria announced with a small smile.

Stepping into her English class, Mr. Fitz (her teacher) began handing back papers from last week. Spencer was positive she had an A locked up! After all she was a straight A student and she knew ‘Hamlet’ inside and out! As you may be able to tell, grades are very important to Spencer. So as you can probably imagine, when she saw the large red C- on her paper, she almost had a heart attack! As she began her yoga fire breaths, she noticed the paper on the desk next to her. This of course was the desk of Graham Keith. Graham was at the bottom of the class. So as you can imagine again, when Spencer noticed the big red A on his paper, she almost had a second heart attack. But as she looked around, she almost had a thousand heart attacks when she noticed that everyone in the class had a big red A! How was this possible? It wasn’t possible! It was impossible!

Spencer woke in a cold sweat. When she looked around, she was in Aria’s basement. Hanna, Emily and Aria were passed out on the floor. Hanna had fallen asleep in the bowl of bacon flavoured chips. Or what was left of them, the girls had loved those! Except for Aria, who was a vegetarian and hogged the sour cream and onion chips all night. Spencer saw Aria’s eyelids flutter, then open. “What’s wrong Spence?” She whispered. “Nothing is wrong. But I am not moving.” “What?! Of course you are! What are you going to do otherwise?” I don’t know but I am not moving!” “Spencer I have an Idea! Since my sister left for college, her room is empty! What if I ask my mom if you can move in?” “Oh my god Aria thanks!”

She put down her last bag, and turned to face Ella (Aria’s mother). Thanks again for letting my stay until my parents come to their senses!” “Don’t worry about it!” Ella said. “Just make yourself at home and we’ll treat you like family!” Spencer took all the bags she could carry, and Aria took the rest. They started up the stairs to her new bedroom. On the way, they passed Aria’s 14 year old brother Mike, who happened to have a crush on Spencer. “Hey Mike! Spencer is going to live with us for a while! Cool right?” Aria urged. “Yah whatever.” He blushed and closed the door to his room. “Don’t worry he’ll cool down!” Aria giggled. Just a minute later Spencer sat in her new room. She started unpacking and before she knew it, she had a perfect bedroom. Sure she felt a little weird about moving into somebody else’s room, but Molly came home once every two years. And Spencer wouldn’t be here that long, would she? No of course not! Her parents were going to come to their senses, really soon! Spencer sat on her new bed and started her math homework. She stared at question 6. She just didn’t understand. Well she understood it, she just couldn’t focus. She closed her book and lay down. Why was this happening to her? It didn’t seem fair. This kind of things never happened to her. She was Spencer freaking Hastings. Yearbook editor and student body president! Strait A student, and nominated for valedictorian! But since her parents announced their “news” she had been getting B’s. B’s! She’d been so stressed she could swear she was losing hair! She wished her parents would come to their senses! Just then her phone buzzed. She saw the words “one new text message” and clicked open. Hey hon! We are leaving tomorrow, just so you know! It’s not too late to join us. A tear came to her eye. No she didn’t want to go to Alaska. But she couldn’t just live here! She wiped her eyes and walked down the hall to Aria’s room. “Aria,” she sniffed “I need to tell you something.”

The next day, after all her bags and boxes were in the moving van, she climbed into her ________, and started the engine. Her mother peered through the open window. “Honey I can’t tell you how thrilled we are that you’re coming! This all means so much to your father.” “I know mom.” With that, Louis got in her car, and followed Bill out the drive way. She followed her mother and Melissa followed Spencer. Spencer took one more glance at her house, and said a quiet goodbye.

When they arrived at the airport, walked through customs and loaded the plane, she finally unclenched her fists, and relaxed her shoulders. They were flying first class (The Hastings were big spenders) so she had a great view, and a super comfortable chair. Of course this still was auful.

The Key is Forgiveness

Jim was the most outstanding student in our class. The marks he got were unbelievable though I’m not even sure how he attained them. Everyone wanted to be like him with his flawless appearance and close to perfect grades, and I was one of them. I admired Jim not only because of his marks or his looks that attracted girls, but his courteous and generous attitude towards others. His smile wasn’t just a normal smile, it showed lots of joyfulness and ecstasy and that was what I envied most.

It was almost the end of my grade twelve year, and the school organized a prom. I drank quite a bit, yet I still decided to drive home ensuing the party. It was night time and I remembered that I was the only one driving on the road; there were not many street lights either. Suddenly, another car unexpectedly drove right across me; I could not stop my car in time. I braced myself for the crash and fell unconscious abruptly after.

When I woke up some time after, all I heard were siren noises, people talking and cameras flashing. When I was conscious again, I found myself lying on a bed in the ambulance.

       “What happened?” I questioned.

“You just went through a car accident and your head suffered a slight concussion. In the accident, you T-Boned another car and sadly for that victim, he died almost instantly,” replied the paramedic.

At that moment, I was totally stunned. I just killed someone right after I drank alcohol. I couldn’t think about anything else except for the fact that I am going to jail and that I screwed up everything; my career, fortune and reputation. I could not go back in time and change anything anymore. I thought I had a bright future ahead of me, though this incident ruined all my dreams.

It wasn’t until the first day in court that I realized the victim who I killed was the father of Jim. I was totally overwhelmed by this; how could this be? Jim was my role model, and now I had killed his very own father. How am I supposed to forgive myself for doing this?

A few weeks later, the jury came to a verdict. “We have come to a decision, Michael Weaver is guilty of murder while driving impaired. He is sentenced to two years in jail with no probation.”

During my time in prison, I remained in my cell everyday, wondering why I still chose to drive even though I had drank. I really regretted all that I did. I would not have expected Jim to ever forgive me for my actions.

It was a normal day in prison when suddenly; one of the guards told me someone came here to visit. I wonder who it is…my parents just left BC and none of my friends have visited me before.

When I opened the door, Jim was sitting there; his eyes filled with anguish and were grasping his hands. “Hey, I-I-I’m r-really sorry” I managed to utter, holding back my tears. He did not respond. The room was dead silent when all of a sudden; Jim mumbled a few words, though I did not clearly hear him. He then cleared his throat, looked straight at me and replied, “I was really struggling to forgive you because of what you did to my father. I thought I would never forgive you and that you deserved your time in prison. However, I remembered yesterday what my father kept saying to me, [If you want others to forgive you of your mistakes, you must first forgive them of theirs.] I thought about it all night, and finally, this morning, I decided to give you another chance. So here, I’m going to say, I forgive you, and I mean it.”

I sat there in total amazement and could not believe the amount of courage he had to say that. “Oh my God,” I cried. At that instant, I fell to my knees; tears gushing out my eyes. “I’m so sorry Jim, I never wanted any of this to happen to you and your family, I’m just so sorry. I was ashamed and embarrassed of myself everyday for my actions. I never thought in my life that you would forgive me, yet you came here today doing just that and I’m truly thankful for that, I really am.”

He then simply said three words, “You are welcome,” and walked out of the room.

From that point on, I lived life with confidence and determination again, Jim’s forgiveness gave me a new start to my life and I was sure to use that chance accordingly.

It has been six years since and now, I have my own family with two children and am currently employed as a school coordinator at St.George’s. It really has been a substantial turn around for me; from a high school student convicted with murder while driving impaired to being employed at one of the most expensive schools in the Vancouver lower mainland in British Columbia. If not because of Jim, I would have never imagined myself being where I am in life.
